Purse Bingo

The Knights of Columbus will hold designer purse bingo on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. at St. John Vianney Church in Montdale. Tickets are $25.

Reunion Meeting

The 1967 graduating classes of Olyphant High School and St. Patrick’s High School of Olyphant, will hold a reunion meeting, open to all classmates, on Feb. 21, at the Italian-American Club, Burke Bypass and E. Members of other graduating classes from both schools are also invited to attend.

Crime Watch

A Mayfield Crime Watch meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. (a new time) in the Mayfield Borough Building on Penn Avenue. Detective Vince Butkiewicz will be bringing along his partner “Riggs” for a demonstration. Riggs, a Labrador retriever, is the Lackawanna County drug dog who has recently helped the Drug Task Force on many of its successes.

Blood Drive

Valley Blood Council of the American Red Cross will host a blood drive on Thursday, Feb. 23, noon to 5 p.m. at Wozniak-Pavloski Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7963, 284 Main St. in Eynon. Christ the King Parish is also a sponsor. Donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds. This drive is in memory of all Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Reunion Meeting

The Archbald High School class of 1967 will meet on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Wildcat Saloon to discuss plans for its 50th class reunion. All classmates are invited to attend.

Neighborhood Watch

The Throop Neighborhood Watch will meet Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. at the Throop Civic Center. New members are welcome.

Soup Supper

The First United Methodist Church of Carbondale, 20 N. Church St., will host a soup and chili supper on Saturday, Feb. 25. at 4:30-6:30 p.m. There will be a wide variety of soups and chili to choose from, along with an extensive dessert buffet. St. David’s Dinner

The Saint David’s Society of Lackawanna County will hold its 107th annual banquet on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Genetti Manor in Dickson City. Musical entertianment will be provided by the Valley View High School chorus. Cocktail hour (cash bar) begins at 5 p.m.; dinner at 6 p.m. Call 570-586-2614 for tickets.

Ethnic Dinner

Lodge 92 of the Greek Catholic Union will hold an takeout-only ethnic dinner on Sunday, Feb. 26, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the LaSalle Auditorium on First Avenue in Jessup. Price is $10. Menu includes kielbasa, pierogies, stuffed cabbage rolls and cabbage and noodles. For tickets, call 570-499-0679. Proceeds will be donated to local charities.

Young People in Recovery

The Scranton Chapter of Young People in Recovery (YPR) will host its second monthly community chat on Monday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. at Peckville Assembly of God Church, 3364 Scranton Carbondale Highway in Blakely. Reunion Meeting

The Fell Alumni Association committee will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. at Walter Paciga Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4712, 500 Main St. in Simpson, to continue planning for the reunion on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Morrison’s Grove. All alumni are welcome.

Pierogie Sale

Parishioners of St. John’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Mayfield will hold a homemade pierogie sale on Wednesday, March 1 (Ash Wednesday) noon to 4 p.m. at St. John’s Center, 703 Hill St. Homemade pierogies (deep fried or uncooked) will be sold for $7 per dozen. Ethnic Food Sale

Saint Michael’s Russian Orthodox Church in Jermyn will hold an ethnic food sale on Ash Wednesday, March 1, at Saint Michael’s Center, 403 Delaware St. in Jermyn. Menu includes Manhattan clam chowder, cabbage and noodles , homemade pierogies (butter and onion, deep fried or frozen ), homemade Italian cheeseball dinner, homemade rolls (walnut, poppy, lekvar, apricot, pineapple coconut and raspberry cream). Lions Meeting

The Jessup Lions Club, the Jermyn Lions Club and the Eynon-Archbald Lions Club will meet Thursday, March 2, at 7 p.m. at the Wildcat Saloon & Eatery, Route 247 in Sturges. District Gov. David Barrett will address the group during his annual visit. Fran Stepkovitch will preside. All members and those interested in joining any of these clubs are asked to attend.

Mayor Position Open

Anyone interested in filling the vacant seat for the mayor position, which will run through Dec. 31, can submit a letter of interest to the Throop Borough Building at 436 Sanderson St. or email to throopboro@comcast.net. All letters must be received by noon on Monday, Feb. 27.
