The Blakely Borough 150th anniversary continues with a riding lawn mower race on Friday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m., rain or shine, starting at the Riverside Drive entrance to the Blakely Borough Recreational Complex. Riders are encouraged to bring any kind of mower they have and dress in costume. There is no entry fee.
The Jessup Lions will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m. at Michael Steiner American Legion Post No. 411, 508 Church St. in Jessup. Tony Ligi will preside. White cane collection will be discussed. All members and interested new members are welcome.
Ethnic Food Sale

The 12th annual Blessed Sacrament Family Festival will be held on Friday through Sunday, Aug. 18-20, on the church grounds at 215 Rebecca St. in Throop. There will be traditional picnic and ethnic foods, including a pig-in-the-blanket dinner on Saturday beginning at noon. There will be food and games for kids on Friday and Saturday. Jessup Hose Co. No. 2, Station 25, will host its sixth annual Summer Wine Festival on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2-7 p.m. at the hose company carnival grounds on Hill Street in Jessup. More than 10 Pennsylvania wineries will have their products available for tasting and sale. In addition more than 40 crafters, specialty item vendors and food vendors with everything from cupcakes to pizza will be in attendance. There will be live entertainment, games and a basket raffle along with instant bingo available all day. Tickets are $15 in advance and $25 at the gate. Eclipse Viewing Glasses
The Valley Community Library will give away 250 pairs of approved viewing glasses, which will allow wearers to go outside and safely view the partial eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21. The library will also have children’s crafts, snacks and activities throughout the two-hour period. Registration is required for the children’s program, and will guarantee glasses. Leftover glasses will be free for children and adults as available. Glasses will not be available ahead of time. Although it will only be a partial eclipse in this area, even partial eclipses are dangerous to view with either the naked eye or sunglasses.
