Dickson Days Coming Up

Dickson Days will be held Friday, Aug. 13, 5-11 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 14, 2-11 p.m. at Bernard Seminski Park, Elm and Dewey streets, Dickson City, featuring music, ethnic foods, refreshments, raffles, games and games for kids. A kid's duck hunt, with prizes, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. At 3 p.m. Saturday its the fifth annual duck drop in the Lackawanna River. Fireworks will cap the day on Saturday.
The Dickson City Civic Center will once again host a "support our troops" stand. The center is requesting photos of men and women serving in the armed forces to be displayed at the stand. Drop them off at the Dickson City Civic Center, 925 Albert St. All photos will be returned unless families wish to have them displayed at the center during the year. The booth will also be collecting non-perishable goods, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, writing pads and pens and non-perishable snacks to send in care packages to service personnel in the Middle East.
The event is sponsored by Dickson City Borough. In addition to the the Dickson City Civic Center, the following organizations will take part: American Legion Post No. 665 Riders; Boy Scouts Troop No. 322 and Cub Scout Pack No. 21; Boys Scout Troop No. 21; Dickson City Assembly of God church; the Dickson City Crime Watch; Dickson City girl's softball; Eagle Hose Co.; the Fishing Ambassadors; the Mid-Valley High School basketball boosters, art club, cheerleaders and varsity boys and girls tennis; the Olyphant Lions Club and the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church.
The fourth annual Dickson City Civic Center big-ball tournament will start on Thursday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. at the park with games on Friday and Saturday. This is a double-elimination tournament with a cash prize of $200 for the first-place winner and a trophy for second-place team. Call 383-1813 for more information.
