17th annual Cancer Survivors Celebration this weekend
The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute will hold the 17th annual Cancer Survivors Celebration, honoring the courage and strength of the “family of survivors with a free afternoon of family fun, food and entertainment Sunday, June 14, 1-4 p.m. at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Anyone touched by cancer is invited to attend.
Among those attending will be Dolores Seguin, 70, of Peckville. She’s a 25-year uterus and endometrial cancer survivor and has attended annual cancer survivor celebrations in the past.
“I enjoy the company of other cancer survivors, the food and the day,” she said. Her advice to other cancer survivors is basic: “Never give up on God,” she said. “He can take them through so much. My pastor stood by my side and helped me immensely.”
Bob Lamson and Natalie Gelb Solfanelli have agreed to serve as co-chairs of the event planning committee. Lamson, of Luzerne County, is a colorectal cancer survivor.  Natalie Gelb Solfanelli, of Lackawanna County, is a breast cancer survivor. Pennsylvania state senator Ray Musto along with his wife, Frances Musto, who is a cancer survivor, will serve as honorary chairs for the 17th annual Cancer Survivors Celebration. Blood-Lead Screening
The Pennsylvania Department of Health will hold a free blood-lead screening for pregnant women and children from 10 months to 7 years old Tuesday, June 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Throop Borough Building, 436 Sanderson St., Throop.

RSD Support
The Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) Support Group of Scranton will meet Saturday, June 13. 1-3 p.m. at the Lupus Foundation’s new autoimmune center, 615 Jefferson Ave., Scranton. Parking is free in the lot next to the center. Call 383-0578 for more information.

Diabetes Fair
Mercy Hospital invites the public to its annual diabetes fair Wednesday, June 17, 8:30-11:30 a.m. on the second floor McGowan Conference Center at the hospital. The educational event will feature vendors and lectures. Admission is free, no registration is required and parking is free.

National Volunteer Week
Lackawanna County Health Care Center celebrated National Volunteer Week honoring their volunteers. The Legion of Mary were honored for their 25 years of volunteer service to LCHCC.
