Pitching In in Archbald

If you saw students cleaning and planting on Main Street in Archbald and Eynon recently, it was part of a program organized by the Archbald Borough Main Streets Committee. Coach George Howanitz has been bringing his football team for the Main Streets cleanup for three years. The boys cut grass, used weed whackers, cut hedges and picked up litter on Main Street in Archbald and Eynon and Route 246 in Sturges. This year another feature was added when honor society members and members of student council also volunteered to help with some flower planting and cleanup of areas on Main Street, Archbald, and Main Street, Eynon. More than 40 students turned out on successive Saturdays to aid the Main Streets committee. A group of students from the horticulture class of the Career Technology Center aided in the planting. Councilwoman Shirley Barrett leads the Main Streets committee, which is chaired by Jim Pickard.
