Santa and Mrs. Claus greeted youngsters at last weekend's "Christmas on the Plaza" event in Archbald.

The sound of jingle bells has been heard and a jolly old man in a red and white suit has been seen out and about in the mid- and up-valley lately, and Kris Kringle will be making appearances all over the area this weekend as well.

Last weekend in Archbald, there was a cheery small-town gathering at High School Plaza with carolers singing, residents sipping hot chocolate and a horse-drawn carriage taking people for rides when who should arrive (aboard an East Side Hose Co. No. 4 fire truck) but ol' St. Nick himself.

This weekend Santa wil be making still more stops:

- Santa will return to Archbald Saturday, Dec. 22, at the East Side Hose Co. No. 4 fire station, 458 Salem Road at 11 a.m. Then at 11:30 a.m. he'll head out into the borough aboard that fire truck with treats for onlookers. Anyone in Archbald Borough wishing a special visit from Santa should call 876-1524 and leave your name, address and call back number.

- In nearby Eynon, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7963, 278 Main St., Eynon, will host a children's Christmas party Saturday, Dec. 22, noon to 1:30 p.m. There will be refreshments and each child will receive a small treat. Santa will arrive by fire truck around noon. Bring a camera. Other sponsors include American Legion Post No. 624, the Eynon Fire Department and Ambrose Revels American Legion Post No. 328.

- The Mayfield Lions Club will conduct its yearly "Visit with Santa" Sunday, Dec. 23, 2-3 p.m., at St. John's Center, 703 Hill St. in Mayfield. Pizza and refreshments will be served, and activities will include coloring, writing wish lists and a singalong of favorite Christmas songs. Santa will read "A Visit From St. Nicholas" and pose for photos.

- Santa will also tour the Peckville area of Blakely Borough on board the Wilson Fire Co. No. 1 fire truck Sunday, Dec. 23. beginning at 5 p.m. Santa's elves will distribute treats along the way. Parents of children that are ill or homebound, who would like to request a personal visit from Santa should call 383-2286 and leave their name, address and a phone number, or notify any member.
