Third-graders in Mid Valley Elementary conducted several fund-raisers to benefit Shawn Donaghy, a ninth-grade student who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. The projects were part of a lesson spearheaded by Michelle Crotti, a student teacher at Mid Valley, on community, volunteerism and being a good neighbor. The students had a “dress-down day” during which they raised funds, (the Dickson City Wal-mart donated a bicycle to be raffled off during the day) and the Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Dickson City ran a benefit night where 10 percent of each check was donated to Shawn. Two gift cards were also raffled off that evening. In all the class as able to raise $2,189 for Shawn.
