Saint Rose Academy's graduating Class of 2010 includes:

Nina Marie Shayka is the daughter of Robert and Bernadette Shayka, Carbondale. She is the valedictorian of the class of 2010. She received the four-year distinguished honors award, has been awarded first in subject excellence area for English and second in science and social studies, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She also has been awarded the Marian Community Hospital scholarship. is the recipient of the Carbondale Business Association award and scholarship. She will attend Drexel University majoring in health services; Drexel awarded her a dean's scholarship.

Zachary White is the son of Thomas and Kathleen White, Childs. He is salutatorian of the class of 2010 and earned Scholar of the Year Award 2010. He received the four-year Distinguished Honors award, and has been awarded first in subject area excellence in religious studies and science. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. He is the recipient of the General Jerome F. O'Malley scholarship. He will attend Keystone College majoring in communication arts where he has been awarded an excellence scholarship, a grant, a residence hall grant and an access scholarship.

Alexander Taber Capron is the son of Sandra Capron and Stuart Capron, both of Hopbottom. Taber is second in subject area excellence in mathematics. He will attend Pennsylvania State University, majoring in engineering.

Bianca Antoinette Carlson is the daughter of Patrick and Annette Carlson, Carbondale. She plans a career in business.

Jacqueline Lee Culotta is the daughter of Sal and Elly Culotta, Lake Ariel. She has been awarded the Lackawanna County District Attorney's office Ambassador Against Drugs scholarship. She also received the health and physical education award. She will attend Pennsylvania State University and has not yet declared a major.

Andrew Joseph Ford is the son of Michael and Eileen Ford, Nicholson. Andrew placed first in subject area excellenc for Spanish and earned the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Award in 2007. He is the recipient of the Happy Home Trust Fund Scholarship and a recipient of the St. Rose Class of 1953 memorial scholarship. He will attend Keystone College, majoring in fine arts and has been awarded a Keystone College Leadership Award.

Michael Anthony Fortunato is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Fortunato, Scranton. He will attend Pennsylvania State University and has not yet declared a major.

Joseph Paul Marchese III is the son of Donna and Joseph Marchese, Forest City. Joseph has been awarded first in subject area excellence for social studies and a four-year distinguished honor student, He has been awarded the Forest City Rotary Award and Scholarship. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and he is a Tomorrow's Leaders Today 2009 graduate, sponsored by the Scranton Chamber of Commerce. He will attend Mount St. Mary's University, studying history and political science.

Jeffrey Angelo McDonald is the son of Dorothy Moran, Carbondale, and Brian Borrock, Blakely. He has been awarded the Friends of Cathy Tomazic scholarship and Carbondale Housing Authority scholarship. Jeff will attend the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in business.

Patrick Ryan is the son of Allison Haney, Waymart. He will attend the University of Tampa, majoring in marine biology.

Benjamin Matthew Shifler is the son of Anthony and Jennifer Shifler, Jessup. Benjamin will attend Keystone College, majoring in fine arts.

Nicholas Arthur Shifler is the son of Anthony and Shifler, Jessup. He has been awarded first place in subject area excellence in Spanish and second in religious education. He will attend Westwood College majoring in game art.

Candice Elizabeth Tomsky is the daughter of John and Maryann Tomsky, Carbondale. Candice received the four-year distinguished honors award, and has been awarded second in subject area excellence for English. She also is a recipient of a St. Rose Class of 1953 memorial scholarship. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Candice will attend Pennsylvania State University majoring in elementary education.

Michael Victor Venezio III is the son of Susan Venezio, Greenfield Township and Michael Venezio, Forked River, N.J. He will attend Johnson College studying diesel mechanics.

Christine Marie Elizabeth Yadlosky is the daughter of Theresa Miller, Whitehall, and Thomas Yadlosky, Forest City. She received the four-year distinguished honors award, and has been awarded first in subject area excellence in mathematics. She is a member of the National Honor Society. She is the recipient of the Frank Lee Citizenship award and scholarship. Christine will attend the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in psychology.
