The Carbondale Trinity Club, which is composed of Monsignor William Farrell Division No. 2 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Columbia Hose Co. No. 5, have donated to many charities since its formation in 1999. The club is offering two scholarships, each valued at $500, to eighth-grade students in the Upper Valley (Archbald to Forest City) who will be continuing their high school education in a Catholic school. Applicants will be judged by a set of criteria that includes scholarship, citizenship and leadership.
Applications must include an essay of not more than 100 words explaining what community means to them. Essays should include a definition of what constitutes a community and what is important in a community. A list of any involvement in community activities (volunteer work, etc.) should be a part of the application, as well as notation of all participation in extra-curricular activities. Two letters of recommendation must also be provided.
Applicants can gain additional consideration by highlighting any achievements in leadership, athletics, community service, etc. Application forms can be obtained by visiting the Carbondale Trinity Club, 83 S. Main St., Carbondale or Price Insurance, 57 Salem Ave. Carbondale, or the St. Rose Rectory, 6 N. Church St., Carbondale. The deadline to return the application and related materials is Tuesday, April 16.
