Jessup’s “Kids Korner” playground, with its massive wooden play structure, has been around for nearly two decades. The facility, adjacent to the Veterans Memorial Field, has been the setting for countless hours of games and activities. But, 20 years of romping takes its toll and recently the park had fallen into a bit of disrepair.

Borough officials, along with State Rep. Frank Farina, noticed and got the community going to do something about it.

Local officials called for volunteers and the platoon of workers sanded and stained the play structure, cut down and trimmed trees that were blocking a clear view into and through the park and new landscaping was put in place.

Businesses, organizatons and individuals that donated money for materials included the Jessup 21st Century Association, Dempsey Uniform, Cousins Convenient Mart, MTF, Eastern Roofing, Ann & Michael Cappellini Realty, TMG Health, Lowes, Modern Builders and Mike Rocobaldo.

Area landscaping companies that donated time and materials to the project were F & T Landscaping, Farina Landscaping and Gregg Betti Landscaping.

Ron Siesputowski Contracting and Modern Builders replaced all worn boards in the playground structure and constructed a stage and benches for the public to enjoy concerts or arts activities.

Area businesses who donated food, water and beverages for all the volunteers were Colarusso’s Restaurant, St. George’s Restaurant, Buona Pizza, Two Brothers Restaurant, Domino’s Pizza, Archbald Lions Club and Rose Insurance Co.

“For years this park has been used by children throughout the area, as a gathering place and a place to enjoy those beautiful outdoor sunny days,” Farina said. “Kids Korner, which was initially made possible by a community effort, kept our children off the streets and helped our community flourish. We’re glad to be able to to give it back to our children to enjoy.”
