Baseball/Softball Signups

Carbino Club Little League will be having final Baseball and Softball sign ups February 18th from 3 to 5pm at the VFW on Dolph Street in Jessup.

• The Greater Carbondale Miss C softball league will hold registrations for girls 5-18 every Saturday in February, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and every Sunday in February from noon to 2 p.m. in the board room at Fell Field, 11 Lord Ave. in Simpson. • The Valley Area girls softball league meets on the second Wednesday of the month (next meeting: March 8) through April at the Shopa-Davey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6082, 123 Electric St. in Peckville. Meetings are open to anyone wishing to participate in league activities.

• Valley View Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken leagues signup will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 10 a.m. to noon at the Blakely Borough building, 1439 N. Main Ave. in Peckville. Free-Throw Competition

Nine boys and girls from Archbald/Eynon, ages 9 to 14, were named local champions of the 2017 Knights of Columbus free throw championship and earned the right to compete at the district level. Archbald Council No. 2644 sponsored the local competition at Valley View High School. The following were champions of their respective age brackets. Laynie Buli, Molly Murphy, Kaylee Martin, Aliyia Romano, Skylar Bianchi, Koby Cerra, Ayden Krupovich, Ian Kovatch and Jude Kovatch. Each contestant was allowed 15 free-throw attempts in the contest. Ties were settled by successive rounds of five free-throws per contestant until a winner emerged.

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing thru local, district and state competitions. Last year more than 120,000 shooters participated in over 3600 local competitions. Last year L.V. Pegula, the 11-year-old boys bracket champion, won the state-level championship.

Yoga for Healing

The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) Hospice is offering a “Yoga for Healing” program. The program, taught by a professional yoga instructor, is designed to help participants increase flexibility; enhance strength; and improve concentration, posture, breathing and balance. This class is for beginners and those with a moderate yoga skill level. Classes are held every Tuesday, 6:15-7:45 p.m., at VNA’s office, 301 Delaware Ave. in Olyphant. The cost is $10 per session. DCCC Fitness

• Betsy’s Boot Camp: Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:15-7:15 p.m. and Saturdays, 9-10 a.m. Cost is $5 per class for Dickson City residents; $7 per class for non-residents.

• Open gym: Various hours during the week. Free for Dickson City residents; $3 for non-residents.

• Senior aerobics: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9-10 a.m. Free for Dickson City residents.

Nearme Yoga

Nearme Yoga, 110 Terrance Drive in Peckville, offers a variety of yoga classes including all-level vinyasa, kids yoga for all ages, mom and me, happy hour, candlelight flow, beginner “the basics” yoga, restorative yoga and many workshops and events.
