Celebrating a century

From left, Mayfield Mayor Al Chelik, Sophie Konish and Emily Whitelavich celebrate Konish's 100th birthday. She turned a century old on May 8 and Chelik signed a proclamation honoring the lifelong Mayfield resident. After graduating from Mayfield High School in 1939, she went on to work at Mayfield Cinema, the Penn Dress Factory and the Jermyn Dress Factory until her retirement. She married Walter "Kip" Konish in 1946. They remained married until his death in 1970. The lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Mayfield was a fixture at church picnics. She also loved to knit, quilt, do embroidery and travel, especially to Poland and Las Vegas.
