To keep up school spirit while students are quarantined at home, Carbondale Area Jr./Sr. High School under the direction of math teacher Corey Foote and senior class president Olivia Manarchuck, hosted a virtual Spirit Week.
The first day, students were asked to participate in Mismatch Day. Seventh grader Rylie Toolan won first place. Olivia won second place and sophomore Blake Rude won third place.
The second day’s theme was Summer Vibes. Students were encouraged to send in photos of themselves dressed in their favorite summer attire. Sophomore Blake Rude won first place, freshman Ashleey Escott won second place and freshman Julie Gorel won third place.
The third day was Fanatic Fan Day, featuring some very devoted fans. Olivia won first place, eighth-grader Alayshia Williams won second place and junior Isabelle Palmiter won third.
Virtual Spirit Week continued for a fourth day with the theme of real life superheros, to give students a chance to thank all of the health care professionals battling COVID-19. Ashley won first place, Olivia won second and freshman Madison Kelsch won third.
Finally, the final day of virtual Spirit Week had a “great outdoors” theme. Rylie won first place, Olivia won second place and Ashley won third place. Spirit Week also included a door decorating contest so students could show off their school pride.
All winners received ice cream for their efforts, according to school officials.
