Dinos in the Valley: Library kicks off new club for kids

Ella Giancini, 4, of Jessup, pets Gemz the Triceratops under the supervision of Stephanie Spaid of Carbondale. The Valley Dino Squad, which will next meet at 5 p.m. April 18 at the Valley Community Library, will be led by Eric Skurka of Jurassic Raptors 570. He will teach the children about dinosaurs, covering topics like fossils and what dinosaurs might have lived in their own backyard. He’ll also have dinosaurs for the children to meet, including Gemz.

From left, Delilah Contreras, 9, of Archbald; Valley Community Library’s Youth Services clerk Michaela Spaid; Shayne Young, 3, of Dickson City; and Paul Hill, 3, of Jermyn, interact with Gemz the baby Triceratops from Jurassic Park 570. Spaid will be leading the new Valley Dino Squad. “I wanted to not only give kids a space to learn and talk about their favorite dinosaurs, but to also participate in different STEM based science experiments and even begin to understand the environmental impact that caused the extinction of dinosaurs,” she said.
