Ahead of the Super Bowl, the Volunteer Hose Company of Throop sold 130,000 wings to hungry Valley residents — about 1,300 orders of 10 wings each.
Dozens of firefighters and other volunteers, deep fried fresh wings and tossed them in one of three kinds of homemade sauces during Sunday's sale. Hose company Chief Andy Hegedus said sales were up about 40% compared to last year.
"The community is behind us," Hegedus said, adding that the wing sale is "not just about the money. ... We want to give back to the community, too, and put names with faces in the community."
